A True Hero

All heroes are role-models, but not all role-models are heroes, and idols are just objects of blind worship. The difference is important. Heroism is a defined good, but a role-model can just as easily model evil. Heroes risk the sacrifice of something at least as valuable to them as the thing they save is to the those they help. Security, safety, freedom, or life, for example. Sacrificing or taking a risk for a personal reward such as wealth, fame, glory, or fulfilling an obsession, doesn't make one a hero. Some heroes are professionals, but everyone except infants can be heroes. It doesn't take special talents or skills, just overwhelming compassion.
